there were a lot of really specific scenes and moments in this book that I loved, but as a whole, I would say that I enjoyed the first book more. I think this is mostly because I found that the ending wrapped up too smoothly, I was hoping for more angst and tension for the dramatic ending, but it was just really short.
I absolutely loved the relationship between crier and ayla and everything that they were willing to do for one another. In this book especially we got to see a lot more of crier's character development which was honestly just so good.
overall, I really enjoyed this sapphic fantasy duology and would recommend!

Gosshh I really enjoyed this fantasy world
-all characters are poc
-the queer representation & romance !! (Everything is gay and I love it)
-women as the main leaders
-some (minor) characters use they/them pronouns
What could be improved
-pacing
-a lot of major plot points were revealed by dialogue
-it is unique but simultaneously predictable

in typical YA fantasy fashion everything is resolved quickly and coincidentally which was disappointing. crier and ayla have great chemistry and I actually really liked crier's character but the plot was ?? and the reveal about the queen was way too late considering it was potentially a predatory relationship btwn her and storme(16) since she was continuously referred to as "a couple of years older than ayla".
not a bad duology just disappointing as I was super excited for a rare sapphic fantasy romance

this duology was a very cozy read despite the tension involved. even through hell and back, there was a softness between ayla and crier that was so beautiful to witness. and the friendships made along the way that shaped crier were so nice to see, really got to explore more of her feelings in this book.
fascinating plot line, and you’re constantly rooting for the girls!!it did make me laugh that yora’s heart was in the palace the whole time though hahaha
