This covers the first two Discworld books, in graphic novel form. It was exactly what I wanted it to be - a fun, somewhat abridged, adaptation of The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic. I’ve read the original novels before, albeit a long time ago, so I was already familiar with the characters, and they were brought to life quite well. It was a quick and easy way for me to revisit the first two books, with the extra enjoyment of seeing it all as a graphic novel.

I found myself dipping into the novels a few times, just out of curiosity about the accuracy of the adaptation (was Liessa really dressed like that?), and was always pleasantly surprised - but pleasantly surprised in two ways: firstly, that the adaptation seemed very accurate (yes, she really was dressed like that), but also that the richness, humour, and fun from the books was all coming from Pratchett’s writing. The graphic novel does a decent enough job of, well… telling the story graphically - and is certainly an excellent illustration of the original novels. And while the abridgement suited The Colour of Magic quite well, as the book is a series of short, relatively unrelated episodes, The Light Fantastic felt a little disjoint in places. The thing I found must surprising about my experience of reading the graphic novels, though, was that it made me want to read the original books.

So this graphic novel gave me exactly what I wanted: it was a quick and easy way to revisit those first two novels, to kick off my intended journey through the entire series. And it was nice to see the cowardice of Rincewind, the naivety of Twoflower, the unstoppable tenacity of the Luggage, and the unlikely romance between Cohen and Bethan, all played out for me again.

Has this whetted my appetite for the rest of Discworld? Yes, definitely. Would I read them in graphic novel form if they were all available as such? Probably not.

Its a very fun graphic novel but also very confusing and the transitions are not explained on how they ended up in a new place or location. I felt lost through most of it but still enjoyed the fantasy and adventure element to it. Some parts I found funny.

I read the first two Discworld novels quite recently, so I remember them well and I think that the graphical novels are pretty accurate and detailed.. Only a few details have been omitted but that's not a big deal.

I had never read any of the Discworld novels, and for the longest time I had never even heard of them... I know, what??? But, yes, it's true, and I can't believe I had missed out on them all this time. I picked this one to get a feel for the books, and I know many people would say this edition doesn't do the series justice, but it definitely got my attention.

"Several days prior to the fire, a ship came up the river Ankh and fetched up on the Morpork Shore. It carried a cargo of pink pearls, milk-nuts, some official letters for the Patrician of Ankh--and a man."

It was the interactions between Twoflower and Rincewind, that kept me reading on, laughing and being mystified by all the things they were seeing and having to experience. Especially, when it came to Twoflower, he was such a unique character, with his innocence, but also the little surprises he kept bringing to the pages. Plus, the golden chest he owned, with walking feet and all, was the best thing ever.

"This sort of thing happens to me all the time! One minute I'm falling off the world, then I'm inside a book, then I'm on a flying rock, then I'm watching Death learn how to play Weir or Dam or whatever!"

But, Rincewind is not to be left behind. His crazy antics, demeanor, all of his character, is one I doubt I'll forget anytime soon. It's because of him, and Twoflower, that I know I need more Discworld in my life. If it's anything like the graphic novel, and like I said I've heard it's even better, then I am ready for the thirty-some plus books in this kaleidoscope of a world.

i don't know how i feel, this was very confusing to read, i'm hoping when i read the light fantastic in actual book form it'll make more sense and be better; i have critiques on the art style but i think i've already written about them somewhere and if you open the book you'll know what i'm getting at anyway so i don't have many meaningful commentary

I don't do well with series. I peter out pretty quickly and it takes a lot for me to finish the first one and start the second, much less the 7th or whatnot. I was glad to see two graphic novel adaptations of the first two Discworld novels.
That being said, I felt like I was missing out. I know it's an adaptation but it seemed clunky. I felt like I didn't quite get what was going on and was often confused.
Pratchett's trademark wit and humor was scattered throughout but it wasn't enough to sustain the graphic novels. The story itself was good but I will likely stop here. Glad to know these adaptations exist though.

This was very fun to read through, but if you've never read the original books, start with them before reading this graphic version. There's more of Pratchett's humor in the original books, plus you get to imagine all of the fun in your own mind. But afterwards, this book is worth the read-through: it's fun to see how the universe of the Discworld looks in the imaginations of others, and there's still plenty of humor to be found here.
