„Die Leiden des jungen Werthers“ ist sowohl ein autobiographischer ist, als auch gilt das als Brief-Roman. Obschon er ein Brief-Roman ist, ist die Erzählstruktur hier total auffallende und bemerkenswert. Hier Werther schreibt Briefe nicht an seine geliebte Lotte, sondern an seinen Freund Wilhelm, der gar nicht im Roman vorkommt. Er ist nur ein passiver Leser. Mit Werthers Briefe gibt es hier auch inzwischen Kommentare des fiktiven Herausgebers. Dieser fiktive Herausgeber ist zwar nicht ein Teil der Geschichte und Handlung aber er beobachtet und beschreibt alles von außen, wie ein allwissenderer Erzähler. Die verwendete Erzählstruktur ist so eine Ablehnung der übergenommenen, und angelernten Wege. Im Roman ist die Natur mit Gott gleichrangig. Es wird mehrmals betont, dass unser Leben nicht nur auf Denken und Vernunft, sondern auch auf unsere Gefühle und Emotionen angeht. Das persönliche Fühlen für mich ist von großer Bedeutung. Das Gleichgewicht von Natur und Gott finde ich nachvollziehbar und halte ich aufrecht. In unserer indischen Hindu Philosophie ist es auch das geschrieben, dass alle Menschen von fünf natürlichen Elementen i.e, Wasser, Feuer, Erde, Wind und Weltraum gemacht werden sind. Deswegen nach dem Tod verbrennen wir die Leiche. Damit kann die Schöpfung Gottes und Natur Eins wird. „Die Leiden des jungen Werthers“ von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe sehr lobenswert und tiefsinnig und eine der meine Lieblingswerk der deutschsprachige Literatur.

Young Werther mopes around his best friend's girlfriend wondering whether he should kills himself for unrequited love. I just wanted him to get on with it.
Having said that this is a classic 'bildungsroman' that kick-started the romantic movement not just in Germany but across Europe. Many great writers loved it.

Goethe's beautiful, poetic prose and poignant juxtaposition certainly lift this novel above the multitude of milquetoast love triangle narratives. After looking into Goethe's personal history, I discovered that The Sorrows of Young Werther is extremely autobiographical. Knowing this makes the book even more moving. Even though it was published in 1774, the agonies and lack of recourse from unrequited love are just as resonant today.
