A bold and complex novel with characters that span over a century, and and story that interweaves around the Wagner opera Tristan and Isolde. Settings include New York, Paris, Vienna and Pittsburgh.

All the story lines eventually coalesce in what felt to me like a somewhat choppy ending. For the most part, I enjoyed the writing, but in a few spots it felt a bit overwrought and overly melodramatic.

It's an interesting ride with emotionally engaging characters that kept me reading. I will be cautious to recommend it based on some of the themes contained in the novel.

It was well written, but I just couldn't bring myself to care. I stopped about 1/2 way through.

I liked The Metropolis Case for the same reason I loved [b:The Time of Our Singing|23007|The Time of Our Singing|Richard Powers|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1328024176s/23007.jpg|2430417] Both Powers and Gallaway write passionately and convincingly about music and those who live for it. Sadly lacking musical talent myself, I was nevertheless swept away by the story of brilliant wagnerian singers and opera lovers. I didn't mind the implausible plot or the too neatly wrapped up ending, this book just made me happy (except for the death of the cat, that made me cry). Plus, I'll read any book with an elixir of life in it.

The Metropolis Case by @matthewgallaway was fascinating!!! Although the ending was similar to what I’d expected, I was taken on such a marvelous journey getting there I didn't mind one bit. Be sure to check out the website! It provides further insight (sometimes much needed) to this beautiful and complex work. Time to go listen to Tristan and Isolde...
