“There was a game we used to play when we were kids-the hanging game we called it.”

THIS WAS SURPRISINGLY GOOD!! Okay so we’re following Skye’s pov where she shares how in their town called Hangjaw’s country, they play this so called sacred game or the hanging game, where someone’s being hanged and another acting as a priest.

And ofc a game has to have its rules!
#1 A stolen highrigging rope must be used
#2 You have to do it in an ash tree
#3 Participation mustn’t be forced and must be done willingly

CRAZY RIGHT. I mean who in their right minds would consent to being almost choked to death (Apparently the characters in the story lol). BUT CERTAINLY, THERE’S SOMETHING THEY’LL GAIN HERE RIGHT.

These free tor horror super short stories are keeping me out of a reading slump. Please give it a try! This was a quick and an engaging read!

The cover is nice and creepy. It drew me to read the book.

I like the idea. I love this little creepy tradition and the dark twist. Really enjoyed reading it.

The dark magical realism is simply all-consuming. Mixing childhood nostalgia with fear, this story is unique and disturbing.

I had high hopes for this one.

Free story from Tor, dark, short and brimming with magical realism. It was fine but there was just something about it that never clicked for me.

Un buen cuento que al leer entre lineas tiene muchísima tela de donde cortar, que mezcla el impacto real de las actividades peligrosas que los niños y jóvenes pueden hacer por influencia social con lo misterioso y extraño del mito.

I really love this short story, it's a bit a confusing read at the beginning but I feel like it adds to the full on horror and gothic nature of the story. The lore of the story and mysterious nature of the Hanging Game and of the Bears is so enthralling and I felt so drawn in throughout the story and although it's a quick read I love it all.
