this book is a philosophical treatise in a science fiction trench coat. one of the first books ive gone in and marked up in a while. love the point she comes to about revolutionary movements needing to remain adaptable and fluid, and the importantance of balancing individual will with collective need.

Another sci-fi classic from one of the greats. In some ways, a more traditional story than The Left Hand of dlDarkness, but ultimately as revolutionary an experience to read. Ursula K LeGuin's books have a tendency to stay with me for months if not years afterwards.

It's gonna take a while for my thoughts and opinions on this book to settle, but it was very thought provoking. I continue to be very impressed by Leguin's skill as a writer, and look forward to reading more of her work. I also think this book would gain a lot on re-read because of how layered it is and how important the non-linear time structure is to the delivery of the themes.

First Le Guin, what a fantastic first book to read by her! Extremely interesting reflection on politics and revo utionary action, even in a post-cold war world. Huge recommendation!
