Wonderful book about trading limitations for opportunities to adapt. The authors unrelenting determination to continue and grow in the face of dementia is nothing short of heroic.

I can empathise with many of the themes in this book.

Not sure how many who carry out PIP assessnments can look in mirrors!

Wendy’s story is truly inspirational. Faced with a disease that will ultimately win out, she has chosen to live for the moment, to still appreciate that there are some positives in amongst the vast array of negatives, and to use a substantial amount of her precious time to raise awareness of a condition the majority of the world doesn’t understand.

The daily measures she has to take, measure that are ever increasing, are eye-opening. The true appreciation comes however from Wendy’s ingenuity and persistence to stave off the effects as much as she can whilst embracing the ‘Yes’ attitude she refers to so fondly.

Thanks NetGalley and Bloomsbury Publishing for a review copy.

Informative, sympathetic, cleanly written, though not as literary/lyrical as I hoped it would be when starting it. Gives a lot of insight into living with dementia from someone with a lot of will and wits. Her fears, frustrations, determination, and sense of self come through very clearly--second-person flashbacks describing her past self and life are effective. The writing gets a little belabored in parts, and sometimes more procedural than substantive (hence a bit boring, losing the personal touch that comes through elsewhere), but those are my only real complaints. It was a little emotionally overwhelming for the first third or so, processing what it would mean to be in her shoes, or for my mom to be, and remembering my grandma's dementia, but like I said the tone shifts to be more procedural after that, with continued expressions of her emotional reactions more like echoes of the beginning. Great audiobook narrator.

What a fantastic insight into the life of a person living with dementia. I wish I had read it sooner, when my mum was alive, so I could have understood how she was feeling and how to help her cope.
Wendy's strategies for maintaining a normal life for as long as possible are so helpful.

The author of the book was diagnosed with early onset dementia and she very honestly and openly shares her story on what her life was like before the disease followed by her daily struggles as well as triumphs once she received her diagnosis. Very inspirational and educating read.

This is such an inspiring, yet sad, story. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there, especially when it comes to describing in great detail something which affects the very essence of who you are as a person. The author has done this in a remarkable way.

I can’t say too much about this book. What I will say is that everyone should take a chance and delve into its pages. It’s not an easy read, it’s an emotional journey into the struggle of a truly inspiring woman who fights every day against an illness which is stripping her of everything she knows.

Huge thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.

Excellent book detailing the POV of someone living with dementia.  It’s very helpful for those of us with loved ones who are also living with dementia and I learnt a few things that will help with interactions with my loved one.
