coming out by danielle steel
After their trip to Europe the girls would be dropped off at Brown University and she'd have
Max all to herself as he started school for the new year.
Virginia and Veronica are going to the ball.
The oldest son has a lot of options as to what he will be doing with his life.
The girls find out they have to goto the ball or their father won't pay for their educations
at Brown. The Jewish mother in law even wants to go. It's a tradtional thing for Olivia, the mother
who at her coming out, last danced with her father before he died.
The youngest son Max thinks because of all the mayhem with 'coming out' that they should just
all 'stay home'. What a cute attitude. he' only 5.
A tattoo on her back, measles, cold of the century, a broken ankle and the ball is Saturday and
Charlie is hiding a secret and her husband just won't go to the ball.
A lot of other obstacles occur the day of the ball...

This book felt like Danielle Steel had a deadline she had forgotten about for a new book and wrote this one over the weekend to turn in. Very easy read - start and finish in the blink of an eye. I predicted the ending after the first chapter - she's almost telling you in the first few pages how it'll end. Not my favorite by her.

Every so often when I am looking for some light reading I will get drawn in by the pretty cover and interesting book blurb of a Danielle Steel novel. Unfortunately I am always disappointed and this time was no different. Her books always read like a first draft. For instance, she will state a fact about a character, and two pages later she will state it again in the exact same words, as if she forgot she already told us that. I am not opposed to an easy read but it's as if her target audience is reading on a third grade level. Maybe I should try one of her earlier novels before she started cranking out two per year. The best I can say about this book is that it was harmless, there was no gratuitous tragedy and it offered some insight into what it takes to debut into New York high society.

needed something fluffy for the car, so i grabbed this. i've never read anything by her before. hmmm.

addendum: this was a terrible idea. only a disc in, i got so bored. basically it is a family fighting endlessly about whether or not the two daughters will go to an old-fashioned coming out ball at some club. so they fight, and discuss, and go on long perfectly-scripted and horribly redundant monologues about why or why not these eighteen year old girls should not be allowed to make their own decisions and should instead do what their parents and/or stepparents want. OMG, kill me now.

but now i have a concrete opinion about danielle steel, which is an extremely important thing for a librarian to have. hah.

This was a quick easy read. I will always love Danielle Steel, but her stories are getting so redundant. Since she comes out with 3 to 4 books a year, shorter stories like this one are easier to take.
