This book is a must-read for fans of the trilogy or anyone who wants to see the series from beginning to end. That said, this is very much a final book so readers new to Colasanti should start with book one (City Love) or one of her standalones.

I am of two minds about this book. On the one hand it was a great conclusion for these girls and I liked how the focus was on their friendship and love for NYC above all else. All three of them had a lot of growth and I love that except for the petty fight here or there this trio had each others' backs.

On the other hand I hated almost everything about Sadie’s storyline from beginning to end which made this hard to take as I realized she was making the Wrong Choice. I was never a fan of her love interest so seeing her double down with him here was majorly unsatisfying. Also, this is likely a problem with being older than the target readers, but the more I thought about it the more I questioned why the guys in this book (who were all successful pseudo adults and between 19 and 21) were pursuing girls who were just 18 and not officially in college yet. I tried to let it go but it's one of those things that felt stranger and stranger the more I would dwell on it.

Rosanna remains my favorite of the three and it was interesting to see her arc come to an end which wound up being just a little unexpected (not something easy to pull off in a contemporary romance!). I wasn't sure about Darcy in the other books but she really shined here. She had the most growth and most satisfying arc from beginning to end.

I enjoyed this book of the series better than the 2nd book. I felt more connected to the characters, and I felt there was a balance between Sadie, Darcy, and Rosanna’s character flaws and positive traits. I felt like in this story Darcy and Rosanna made some huge personal growth was beautifully written and unfolded very naturally. Sadie’s family drama and her journey to move past all the anger was heart wrenching and so honest. I loved that the focus was off boys/romantic relationships and more on the girls and how they treated each other and themselves. I did feel like in this book New York was again it’s own character, but that it took a backseat to the story of the girls. I enjoyed the subtlety. The ending was full of hopefulness and expectation for the future. I loved each girl’s story wrapped up nicely with a tone of their bright future.

Ooof. There was a tiny bit of merit to this last one, but it was kind of a let down. Not in that their endings were bad, but the writing was so much worse. It was as if it was written for someone who has the memory of a goldfish, the repetition of what happened two chapters ago was annoying. Plus the last third was like every single chapter was the ending. “And they all figured out how to be happy” for 10 chapters is a bit much.
