Written from a first person perspective in the form of journal entries to a psychiatrist, this is a powerful tale with no easy answers. The main character, Adam, is a diagnosed schizophrenic. He is on a new drug and going to a new school. While he still sees and hears things, he now knows that they aren't really there. At least not for other people.

His friendship with Dwight, rivalry with Ian, and romantic interest in Maya are all colored by his desperate fear that the drugs won't work and that he will have another psychotic break.

This is a book I had trouble putting down. It delves into some areas of the human psyche that most young adult books I have read shy away from. It is frank and I recommend it.

This book is essentially a diary written for a therapist. Adam was diagnosed with schizophrenia and is on a drug trial. He is still a teenager so there is a lot of mainstream angsty teen opinions and views, we get regular snide comments on the way people look and overreactions. Adam accepts his mental illness, he has learnt to ignore his hallucinations to some degree and feels comfortable calling himself crazy and teasing people about his illness. A mix between starting a new catholic school with general teen drama and a mental illness with a drug trail does create good YA literature however. Julia Walton can make a topic which could be intense and awkward into humorous, I really started to feel for Adams parents and a times Adam. Adam however did become annoying, it may be that YA is not my favourite genre, I found myself rolling my eyes at the smugness and his personality with how he can at times gloat a fait amount can make it hard to connect with him. Adam both accepts and rejects his treatment, his pretending he doesn't want it and how angry he gets can really make him a relatable character, I related to a lot of what he thought and went through, the opening of the book really took me in and there were parts of the book I laughed and some I fell in love with, particularly his list on things that annoy him. He talks about how is illness has affected him and how it has affected family, how he has lost friends and why he pushes people away, the book really normalises an illness that scares many, and mental illness in general.

i really enjoyed this book (and *spoilers* I was sooo happy adam & maya stay together in the end). It was a really easy read but it was enjoyable. i honestly got really confused with the whole mob boss thing but other than that i loved it.

Very interesting, quick read, quintessential YA. Now to watch the movie!

the writing style was really strange i'm sorry 😭

I should definitely be sleeping because I have to leave for the airport in six hours, but why sleep when you can read an amazing book? This was so good. I don't know if it's an accurate representation of schizophrenia, but it's extremely well written and very heartbreaking.

4.5 stars I really liked this book! Not too bad! The things that made it stand out for me was that I really liked Adam’s sarcastic unpopular opinions and when he insulted his psychologist. I loved his relationship with Paul and the fact that his mom was pregnant added SO MUCH to the story. I always think reading something from the point of view of someone other schizophrenia is extremely interesting and this book was no exception. I loved all the characters he had and how they symbolized different things. Bravo!

I loved this book. Great story. Unique. I loved the ending. Description of his hallucinations, feelings and everything was so great and it kept me entertained.

This was beautiful, this was heartbreaking, this is something that everyone should read asap!!!! (Also Adam is an incredible character, oh my goodness, I have no words)
