I could not give less of a fuck about Pat's love life i am so much more interested in them being transgender.

Also love the part near the beginning where Tarboro says he won't bring them to the island because of the "hostile natives" and baselessly implies the indigenous people are cannibals and calls them a derogatory term (this is not seen as a "racism is bad" moment).
And then when they get to the island, there are literally NO indigenous people so that entire racist rant is LITERALLY completely pointless </spoilers>

I enjoyed it! Wish the story would be a bit less quick paced but what can you do. The ending has me itching for the next book

As with [b:Compass South|25689025|Compass South (Four Points #1)|Hope Larson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1440086804s/25689025.jpg|45517430], the first book in this series, I read Knife's Edge with our 5yo, and we both enjoyed it. The storyline stretched her (it's a visual-centric tale about nearly identical twins after all...and there are some ship names and a variety of geographic settings - details to track), but - with a few pauses to review who characters were and where in the world they were - it was another fun story.

Cleo's little romances weren't our favorite (or necessary, really), but I recognize that the book isn't targeted exactly for us. Also, as an adoptive dad I'm sensitive to how adoptive and birth parents are portrayed, and the "real mom" and "real dad" references to birth parents weren't my favorite.

Even so, the twins' adventuring and exploits are fun and the characters and their relationships are interesting.

It'd be fun to have a third book in the series, but the conclusion of this was satisfying and sufficient.
