This book was a quick read with a lot of really great information that was delivered in an entertaining way. Though I consider myself to be a somewhat seasoned writer, I found myself learning quite a few things from this book, from editing tips to information about the publishing industry. It was also incredibly inspiring, urging writers to keep working toward their dreams and to ignore their inner "bully." Though there was nothing necessarily new revealed in this book, all of the information was presented in a unique way that I believe would be incredibly beneficial to an amateur writer.

I would absolutely recommend this book to any aspiring authors looking to learn a bit more about what it's like to be a writer professionally, or who may be second-guessing their abilities. Lafferty's writing is witty, charming, and all-around fun to read.

It's encouraging and motivating. The technical side is a bit simple, but it gives you a big boost to get you to write. Which is the aim of the book. I found the writing exercises thought provoking and some of them were quite original. Definitely recommended if you're stuck with your writing.

Thank you to NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I felt a lot of what Mur says in this book resonated with me as a writer who has struggled with productivity for a long time, as well as issues such as writer's block, what to do when you get stuck, how not to let 'one size fits all' writing advice discourage you, etc. Overall, I think this book is a concise and quick read that gets to the point quickly but offers actionable advice that writers can use to improve our craft, our goals, and our mindset in general. I really liked the use of Bully and Muse in different colours to show problems in 'all or nothing' thinking patterns, and positive alternative thoughts to try to gravitate more towards. Overall, I would recommend this for any writer from beginners to pros and think Lafferty offers many useful nuggets of information as well as writing exercises at the back.

This was a good read! A bit superficial, but it gave a good start to a lot of things. I think I'll need to listen her podcasts...

None of this is new, but it's always nice to read.
This is a very short, very efficient little book that tells you all in the title what it's trying to do, and that's to get you to write. If that's what you're looking for, just encouragement, then this is definitely a place to get it.

When I was younger , our school had something deemed innovative called 'English Lab'. We would dissect tapes and try out different pieces to a prescribed guideline. The guidelines would consist of basic grammar, rules of haikus or other structured writing and tentative story situations. I start with this brief introduction because this book took me back to those fun sessions.

Pretty useful advice. A lot of it was basic, something I already knew or had experienced, but it also told me things I really needed to hear. Especially the fact that I can call myself a writer. That's okay. There's a lot of exercises at the back that I haven't filled out yet but will in the future, and then edit this review.
For now, a very fun, easy read.

Well enough written book that propose simple though and advice about writing fiction. Good and motivating, maybe a little too simple to be mindblowing. I like the motivating part maybe a little more than the «technical» part.

A solid 3 stars, I liked it. BUT another reader might give this five. This is definitely geared more toward beginning writers, and I think it can be of really great use for them. But for me? I'm just not quit the audience for this
