Not my favorite Cotton book or Steve Berry book, but not bad. Woulda been better if I could have just say and read rather than pick up and put down again and again.

3.5 Stars An thrilling installment. One aspect I really liked was that it took place over 2 days. Nothing really drawn out or languishing and at the same time it wasn't a killfest. Sure, people died, but it wasn't only about killing. I did find it annoying how much there was callback (not flashback) to the last book. Also, I found it funny that part of the plot was eerily similar to William Martin's City of Dreams. Both involve Revolutionary War era debt. This on top of the last book by Martin, and the preceding book by Berry revolved around Lincoln, might lead to conspiracies of their own.

I liked that the Luke Daniels character appears, and presume that the setup will be that the Malone character retires soon and Daniels becomes the focal point. Not too bad an evolution.

This was my first Cotton Malone book. I listened to it and it had periodic embellishments by the author which I really enjoyed and felt it enhanced my experience. I like learning about American History through these characters' eyes. It was a fun, fast-paced read.

This was a much better showing for Malone, in my opinion. The story gave a stronger focus to Cotton's (and Luke's) angle in the narrative, rather than sticking so much with Stephanie's side in America. I enjoyed this novel more than some in the past. A good showing.

Fascinating read. I always start with the author's note at the end and repeatedly refer back.

A fast-paced thriller based on the concept that the ratification of the 16th Amendment (federal income tax) may be questionable. This is true! The story is set in modern times and involves a rogue North Korean wannabe ruler, several assassins, and American agents on a 24-hour chase from Venice to Croatia with helicopters, boats, and trains. Andrew Mellon and FDR play significant roles. Sounds crazy but it all makes sense.

What a fascinating concept...the truth with some fiction thrown in to flesh out the story...
