A bit slow to get going, wasn't that taken by the beginning but it started getting interesting towards the end, nice plot twists especially the ones on the last few pages

The last two paragraphs of this book DESTROYED me.

Clarke, Cat. The Lost and the Found. Quercus, 2015.

Faith's older sister Laurel was abducted when they were just kids. Now Faith is a teenager, still living in the shadow of her missing sister, when all of a sudden her sister returns out of nowhere. She had been kept in a basement by a guy named Smith. Faith's family is back in the spotlight and everyone wants a piece of Laurel now that she's back. Something doesn't quite add up, though, and Faith is determined to find out what it is.

If this book were slated as just a contemporary, standard navel-gazing teen book, it would be perfect. As a thriller, however, it fails on many levels. It is not a page-turner, there is no real mystery, and the ending doesn't have that fast-paced, have-to-find-out feel to it that is expected from a book with crime scene tape on the cover. Fans of thrillers are bound to be disappointed in this one, while fans of contemporary lit will overlook it because of the cover. The concept is fantastic, but the execution leaves much to be desired.

Thank you to Quercus Books for sending my workplace a copy for review!
What a rollercoaster! I didn't go into this book with many expectations so I was extremely surprised to come out of the reading experience gushing about how good this book was. I'll start of by saying that my biggest fear is being kidnapped so I probably shouldn't read books like this, but for some reason I find them so fascinating. I loved that this book followed what happens after Laurel is found and how she and her family copes with the adjustment and also with the police trying to track down the man who took her. It was so interesting to see how Laurel coped with being put back into the real world.
At about the half way mark, I honestly couldn't stop flipping those pages because I just HAD to know what happened. The mystery aspect was fantastic and gripping and was super intriguing the whole way through. I did guess the twist at the end though which was a bit disappointing, but I love how the author did it (if you've read it, you'll know what I mean).
I really wanted an epilogue tho. LIKE, JUST A COUPLE MORE PAGES PLEASEEEEE THAT WOULD BE GREAT.
I loved the rawness of the emotions from the family members and all in all I just feel like this book was really well done. I highly recommend it!

I seriously think there is a secret stash of YA plots and each plot gets handed out in bulk and leads to five books coming out in the same season about the same damn thing. It's not this book's FAULT that I have read at least two books exactly like this in the past few months alone, but oh my god can we STOP with the "long missing kidnapped sibling returns but dun-dun-DUHN is it really what it seems?" plot.

"I wish she knew that there are other options besides “complete and utter breakdown” and “plastic smile, everything's fine." There's a middle ground, waiting to be found."
I enjoyed this story quite a lot. Faith's frankness about her resentments and jealousies and the need to hide those feelings from everyone felt authentic and honest for anyone in that particular situation. I'm certain the story would have felt sappy and unrealistic if the author had handled it any differently. A darn good listen!

Honestly, I couldn’t stop reading the book. I was so entranced into what was happening, and I clicked so well with the main character. I felt like she talked just like I would, and I felt that the characters acted in believable ways. I only give it a 4 because I felt that the story dragged on at times and could have moved at a faster pace...or maybe even had something more. Still such a great twist at the end!!

Puuuh. 3 Sterne. Wobei ich eigentlich nur 2 geben wollte. 🤔

Minus one star for figuring out the "twist" immediately

The ending was both very expected and unexpected, The plot dragged on for so long yet the ending was revealed and tied up in just 20 pages. It didn’t seem quite right. Plus, almost all of the characters were truly insufferable. Martha and Thomas both SUCK.
