A Cousin Promise is done well. I know I read this way before starting my book blog. I really did enjoy this. This book is about Loraine and Wayne. Will Loraine keep her promise? Though Wayne seem to have had accident and was left crippled.

Will Wayne see is way and hold on to his happiness? I really can not remember much it been that long ago. If I ever do re-read this book again I truly hope it as good as the first I read it. I do not see why it would not be.

I remember some of it story and plot. I know that it was written well. I did enjoy the story none the less. Will Wayne be able to get over his struggles and look to god and faith. Will Loraine be able to get over her rejection with gods help? What will happen once Loraine old boyfriends returns? Who will Loraine choose to love and marry?

a cousinf promise From Goodreads:Willkumm to the Amish country, where a tragic accident and an old beau complicate the lives of two young lovers.

My Review: A friend lent me this book. I normally would not pick up Amish Fiction but I have to say I am glad I did. This book is the first book in a trilogy. It starts with a car accident and goes on to explore what happens when a normally abled bodied person become disabled.

I liked this aspect of the book. It showed a realistic grieving process while at the same time keeping with the faith and lifestyle of the Amish community.

This trilogy was given to me because all three deals with disabilities and in one book there is a Deaf person in the storyline. I haven't gotten to that book yet but if the first book is any indication I am looking forward to the next two books. I feel it is important to portray disabilities in books as they happen. Here the man who lost his leg in the car accident did not all of a sudden come to terms with it. The grieving process was accurately shown. While I wanted to slap the main character Wayne a few times the reader comes to understand that accepting becoming handicapped takes time and even with a person of supposedly deep and unwavering faith you can still make what seems like stupid decisions. In the end though one must accept what has happened and go on to live the best life possible. This is exactly what happens. This review was originally posted on Adventures in Never Never Land

I read this book because I needed a book to fit the prompt A book with a family-member term in the title. I already had this book (and others in the series) on my bookshelf. I am glad I needed to read it for this prompt. I really enjoyed it.

The characters – Amish cousins, girls and their fiance's, friends, family-members

The setup – the 8 of them and a driver travel from Indiana to Pennsylvania to go to Hersey and see the sights

The inciting incident (problem) - a terrible accident

The rest of the story is how the cousins deal with this accident, actually the rest of the series deals with this accident and the long term repercussions that affect each of the girl cousins, their beaus, and family members. This book is mostly about Wayne and Loraine, but there are many secondary characters as well.

These books, because they are about the Amish, have a spiritual emphasis; though that doesn't mean they don't deal with serious subjects.
“Pop placed his hand on Wayne's shoulder. 'Sometimes the answer to our prayers isn't what we expected. Sometimes God answers by giving us the strength to make it through trials. Other times, He sends someone to help us.' He nodded his head. 'Some of our greatest blessings can come because of a prayer that wasn't answered the way we'd hoped.” (pg 49)

Great characters that you love or hate, heroes and 'villains', loved ones, liars, and gossips.
It keeps you reading. I had a good inkling how things would turn out in the end, but the steps to get there were uncertain and so that kept me reading.
