Not as creepy as I thought, but still a great book! I fell in love with some of the characters and can't wait to read the rest of their stories.

Riley and I read this together, and I was more freaked out than she was.

When I read this in middle school, I definitely remember feeling like there just wasn't much plot to this book. Like, it was really all just setup and incorporating the photo. And I definitely understand why I felt that way upon re-reading it. It's such an interesting premise, the characters are lovely, and maybe it's just because I don't really read series anymore, but this book just did not give me enough. I'm not sure I ever actually made it to the second book as a kid, but I'm not opposed to trying again.

This book was very much a step back into my childhood as it has been several years since I have read it.

The story held up well and was engaging, however some photos felt as though they had been forcibly included and this disrupted the storytelling. I like the dark tinge to the book and wish that this had been explored more as it could have sparked intriguing moral debate. I liked how loops were explained and hope that further books better explore this element of time travel.

I was hooked into this to start off with and I was intrigued with the peculiar children, I wanted to find out more about them. Once the mystery behind them and other things were revealed though, I became a little less interested.

I've been wanting to read this for awhile now, thinking that it was a horror novel but it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. I'm not saying that's a bad thing but I found myself continuing to read only because it's this month's book club book.

I'll keep reading the rest of the books in the series, but I'm not in a hurry to get the next one just yet. While I was reading I could see how well the book will translate into a film. I am VERY interested to see the movie, especially because it's a Tim Burton movie.
