It really sucked me in quickly then trailed off. Really predictable and could have been about 150 pages shorter.

This book is beyond heartbreaking. I’m still stunned.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I could not put it down but at one point I was wondering if it was because I was enjoying it or because the completionist in me needed to know how it ended. It felt like two different and good ideas combined into one average one. The first half of the book was so painful to read, in the literal sense that it made me scared and anxious for the protagonist. The second half was more slow-paced, and it felt like a dragged conclusion with a very abrupt ending. *Spoiler alert* The plot twist/reveal at the end may seem a bit far-fetched but if you know or have narcissistic parents, you totally get that this is plausible. However, I would have liked a better explanation of the whole stepfather/sister/stepbrother story that caused this whole mess. Lastly, I don't know how I feel about the therapist session narration/storytelling. The Annie talking to the therapist and referring to her as "Doc" felt like a completely different character than the Annie in the conversations she was telling the therapist about. Overall, it was a good read, and although I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, I could recommend it to some people (with a trigger warning).
