‘The Fallen Prince’ by Shea Berkley is book 2 in the Keepers of Life series about a parallel world right on top of ours.
Dylan is back home on Earth, and the battles have seemed to have ended for now. Dylan finds himself exhibiting some powerful elemental powers that he struggles to control. Kera is concerned because she’s had similar powers and knows how dangerous they can be. When Kera is kidnapped, it’s up to Dylan to go after her with his wobbly grasp on his new powers and a group of friends that may find themselves in over their heads in the world of Teag.
The plot involves hot headed and lovesick teenagers. If that appeals to you, you may like this series. I liked it but found some elements a bit wearisome after a while.

So when I read the first book in this series, I really wasn't sure what to expect. I loved the cover the first time I saw it and it had been on my TBR for a while. So when I was contacted by Entangled to read the second book for a blog tour, well, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to jump in. And I'm so glad I did.
Certainly the covers draw my attention. I love books that are told from the male POV. Although, we also get Kera's POV through third person in this book (as we did in the first). I did find it odd that the author used two different voices in this way, but it really didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the story. And I love how the hoody is incorporated into the covers of these books. It reminds me of the first time we are introduced to Dylan in The Marked Son when he's in his mother's car, slouched down with the hoody pulled up over his head!
This book picks up a few days after the end of the first book. Dylan is no longer in Teag and Kera is staying with him and his grandparents. But turmoil is constant in Teag and Dylan feels the pull to be there to defend it.
Dylan continues to be an awesome main character. I love his passion more than anything else. And he has such commitment to do things that he knows need to be done. And Dylan's new found powers are building, and he needs to figure out how to control them. You can feel his struggle to fit into the human world. He feels pulled between what he has known all his life, and the land that calls to him, Teag. He has several moments of self doubt and pitying during this book. But I think it goes along with his personality in general: having never fit in anywhere, never having had friends, parents who abandoned him.
Kera remains a bit mysterious during this book. She has secrets she keeps from Dylan. I get that she doesn't want to put him in harm's way, but at the same time I feel badly that she doesn't feel she can trust him to keep himself safe. She fears for her world, but also fears for Dylan and what the "war" between their two worlds could possibly mean.
As with her first book, Berkley does a phenomenal job with creating her secondary characters. I love how she introduces humor through them. It breaks up the action and drama that could possibly monopolize the story and make it out of control. And she introduces more characters to us that really fit in well with the story and make the story line that much more interesting. We also revisit characters from the first book who were not quite developed at that time, but now we're truly seeing who they are.There are too many characters to list, but believe me, you will see that there is rhyme and reason for each and every one of them to be part of this storyline. And she does a great job making them realistic and relatable.
And holy moly can Berkley write. She starts the book off with a bang and it doesn't slow down. I didn't want to put the book down, but a girl's gotta get her beauty rest! I read it so fast, I didn't even have time to add it to Goodreads and give updates! Her descriptions are spot on. She gives us action, which makes your heart pound. She gives us romance, which makes you sigh. She has funny characters that literally make you laugh out loud. And she has dark characters that make you fear for the good guys. Berkley was able to pull every emotion I can possibly think of out of me. She makes it fast paced, exciting, and fun.
I really enjoyed the storyline. This book has an arc that is complete. I am not a huge fan of cliff hangers, especially when there is a long wait between books. The story takes us through the battle and then delivers us an ending that is plausible and realistic. And, while there is certainly room for another book, I don't feel like it left me so out in left field that I am annoyed. And the story is full of surprises that you really do not see coming. And something that really stands out for me is that her characters form a band of misfits that come together to fight for what they know is right.
I am really looking forward to The Bastard King. It cannot come out fast enough for me!

I loved this book, seeing them some more, as things got more complicated, loved it! Can't wait to read The Rising King in 2 days!!!
