I really wanted to like this, with its angels and nephilim premise but unfortunately I just did not like a lot about this book.
I found the main character Emma incredibly annoying. And considering that she lost her parents at the beginning of this book, she's thinking a lot about Kade, a Guardian protecting her, and how his smile and his touch and everything make her so happy and when he's around everything is alright. And this starts from the moment they meet. And goes on for two days. It just screams INSTA-LOVE. Major dislike.
I didn't like the writing too much either. I wasn't really hooked and multiple times I was close to DNFing it. Needless to say, I won't continue with this series.

Hidden Wings was a predictable kind of book. Even though it was entertaining enough to listen to at work and ya know.. work, a lot of it was still predictable.
Emma, the MC, goes through a lot of unexpected shit. Especially in the first couple of chapters. It was like one bomb hit and exploded but also ended up hitting a shit ton of other bombs 'causing a crazy ass explosion. Yeah, like that.
Well, she wakes up in a hospital to find out she was in a car accident with her parents. They didn't make it. Oh, and on top of that she has some relative she's never heard of or met claiming to be her guardian. So she has no choice and needs to move to Alaska, where her aunt lives. Now of course I always think it's strange when kids don't know their relatives. Especially when it comes to these circumstances.
Anyhoo, on this adventure to Alaska she meets Kade and boy are there sparks flying everywhere! They were freaking adorable and I was secretly shipping the crap out of them. I also kind of predicted that they would eventually end up together because of that first moment. Either way, I ate that shit up. I loved it.
Besides the romance and that little family mystery, there's a whole other shit bomb going off. Not only is she not 100% human she finds out that demons or the fallen want to find her and kidnap her and shit. Yeah, a LOT goes down for her and the friends that she meets.

Her parents weren't her real parents. Her aunt is her mom. Her dad was a fallen and got killed for having a kid with a non-fallen. Yeah, things got a little intense.Overall, it was enjoyable even though it was predictable. I could totally see myself diving into the next book just because I want to know more about this world.. and it also makes work go by so much faster.

Hidden Wings follows Emma Wise, who has just found out she is the sole survivor of a car crash that killed her parents. Emma is broken, and on top of the loss of her parents she now has to move away from everything she knows to Alaska to live with an aunt she has never met. Here is where Emma is going to discover family secrets, a centuries old prophecy centering around her, and find out that she is in danger, a lot of danger.
Hidden Wings by Cameo Renae is my favorite angel paranormal romance next to the very popular novel Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. Anyone that is a fan of Unearthly I believe will enjoy Hidden Wings. This book had it all when it comes to an amazing read, it had adventure, forbidden love, secrets, friendship, action and a bit of suspense and mystery sprinkled on top too. From the first page of Hidden Wings you are pulled into Cameo Renae’s writing, I found myself soaring through this book and before I knew it I had read it in one sitting! Renae’s writing flowed so nicely throughout the whole novel, readers will easily find themselves getting lost in the pages of her work.
While all around Hidden Wings was an immensely enjoyable read, my favorite part was the romance between Kade and Emma. There was such a mystery behind their connection in the beginning, and you couldn’t help, but feel for Emma once she found out that a romance between him and her is off limits. I’m not always a fan of the whole forbidden romance thing that a lot of YA novels like to have, but in the Hidden Wings series it was done very well. While it was a great part of the story, it was never something that took center stage, which I personally was grateful for.
Overall Hidden Wings was such a great start to a great series! Hidden Wings ends on a cliff hanger and left me dying to get my hands on book two and find out what happens to the characters I learned to love, and dare I say book two Broken Wings was even better than Hidden Wings! This is a series that I believe is going to continue to get better and surprise the readers more and more, anyone that is a fan of YA paranormal romances must pick this series up!

All I can say is wow. This writer really knows how to open a book! The first chapter just roots you to the page, and I just couldn't read fast enough after that. Emma loses her parents in a car accident, then finds out she has this random long-lost aunt she's never met, or even heard of, before who will be taking her in for the next year, until she turns 18. Not only must she go live with this random person, but it's off in Alaska! However, the mysterious Kade (among others) escorts her there, all the while giving off a connection with Emma that neither one can explain. All Hell breaks loose at the airport, and the story just gets better and better.
It was all I could do to actually go to work instead of finishing the book. I read during my breaks, once I got home, until I got yelled at to turn off the iPad and get some sleep. It's just awesome!! The characters are great, the guys' banter with one another is hilarious, and the plot itself is just amazing. I definitely can't wait for the next installment, as I hate cliffhangers and I have to know what happens to everybody!!!

I reallllly tried to like this book because it had such good potential from the beginning.
We basically follow the characters on a mission to fight the darkling and Emma literally goes from normal life to being thrown onto this mission with a bunch of people she doesn't know but know that they work for her aunt who she has been shipped to, to live with. And she seems okay with this. Everyone in the group knows that Emma is different from the other Nephilim alive and because of this they listen to what she has to say.
This is where I couldn't connect. All these expert protectors and fighters listened quite happily to a 17-year-old who only found out she was 'special' 24 to 48 hours beforehand and has no training or knowledge whatsoever. I would have killed us all at 17 in this scenario, as soon as we had left the house. I tried to love the main love interest but he was trying to pull off the protective 'I want her, don't touch her' vibes and it was working, but he's cute.
Everything seemed a bit forced and not natural at all, especially with the character interactions. Although there were some funny one-liners from a couple of the side characters. There were numerous times where things were premeditated and then the bad guys would listen to Emma's questions while she was captured (which happened a lot) and happily answer them. Aren't they supposed to be the ones in control? Not a 17 year old girl...

I mostly skim read this - especially when the instalove/special snowflake started showing. To be honest it was way, way too trope-y for me, plus the protagonist tended to piss me off. The writing and plot were just meh and bland, and the instalove made me want to throw up a little
