I really wanted to like this but I skimmed the last 1/4 because it just fell flat for me.

-very slow build up
-the anticipation of what was going to happen was the best thing about this book
-i appreciated what the author was going for but it fell a bit short imo
-the pacing was off and if the action started sooner, my rating wouldn’t be so low
-also are you okay???

Something you should know about me is that, while I'm not a lifelong fan, I have been watching the Bachelor family of products™️ for several years. It's a real love/hate relationship — I love when it goes absolutely off the rails, and I LOVE the routine some of my co-workers and I have built it live-Slacking during each new episode. But I hate the lack of diversity, blatant producer intervention, and pitting of women against one another. All this is to say I'm basically the exact target audience for this book. And you know what, I had a pretty fun time reading it. I clocked all the tropes from the shows immediately — shitty bachelor, no one's here for love, aforementioned producer intervention, extreme heteronormativity, etc., which was fun. But I felt a little weird about how the only Black character was characterized, which dampened my experience. (Clarification: I was worried about it, so I was kind of anxious about it throughout the book, but it turned out OK.) I also felt the end of the novel moved SUPER fast, which we all know is a challenge for me. Still, the book provided a really ~dramatic~ journey, and I hope I can convince some of my co-workers to read it!

It was just not good. Had to force myself to read. Was getting bored of it.
