Very interesting

This book provides a very interesting and well explained look into the lives of modern Mennonites through the eyes of a former member. Her life has been upheaved, so Rhoda returns home to reconnect. Very interesting

An interesting memoir and a good, light read. I don't feel as though I know all that much more about the Mennonites after having read this. The book wasn't so much about religion or culture, but about family. The book is subtitled "A Memoir of Going Home" and I feel that more aptly summarizes it than to call it a book about being a Mennonite. Regardless of how the book is characterized, I enjoyed reading about Janzen's family of quirky characters.

This was the perfect book at the right time. It is flawed in many literary ways, but is a lovely, humorous memoir about finding safety from reality in an off-beat family. Aren't those always lovely memoirs? I happened to stumble upon this at the very moment I needed it. It offered humor and connection about where our backgrounds and choices can bring us, and the promise that life goes on when life has left us on an unexpected path.

This is totally outside of my normal genres, but it was funny, engaging and witty. Warning: have your dictionary handy! The author likes big words and knows how to use them!
