Mix of moods: funny, sad, a little spooky, heartwarming...and given the multiple authors the chapters/parts don't seem too disparate.

I especially liked Elizabeth Gaskell's contribution, The Manchester Marriage.

Each chapter in this novella is written by a different author. While it had its moments, it did feel quite disjointed, so much so that when the big reveal came I couldn't remember who the people referred to were, nor did I particularly care.

This little Dickens novel surprised me, and I just loved it. This novella isn't solely by Dickens, he is also joined by Wilkie Collins, Elizabeth Gaskell and Adelaide Procter, and the book is presented as a series of short stories or vignettes, all related to the titular House to Let. There are three separate stories about the previous occupants of the house, and they are all tied together by the nosey neighbor who is curious about the empty house, and the actual investigation of who currently resides there. Of the stories, my least favorite was Going Into Society (by Dickens) and my favorite was The Manchester Marriage (by Gaskell). I also rather enjoyed reading Procter's work, which was told completely in rhymed verse. This short collection might get overlooked within Dickens' vast array of his life works, but I highly recommend it. There's a bit of mystery, quite a bit of drama, love, and secrets in this little enjoyable bind up. If you love Dickens or Victorian literature, don't miss this one!

I listened to about a quarter of this book, and the premise just wasn't drawing me in. The authors I do enjoy, but this collaboration simply didn't seem to be for me.
