Rae Carson is not an author I have visited beyond this little short story yet, but the way she writes definitely tells me I have to check out more from her.
When I got to the end, I was very much hoping there would be more to read in this world she had built, but no, it truly was finished. *still sad*
I would definitely recommend reading this if you haven't yet by now.

A reasonable short story with lots of unanswered questions, good characterisation & scene setting and well written.

It has potential to be very good if it was made to a novel rather than a short story. It is too fast and a bit confusing, but I think you wouldn't be confused if it was longer, so it was more well-explaned. But I really like the setting and as said: I think it has potential as a novel!

It was an interesting concept, would have liked to see it more developed. A short but captivating story.

This was a terrific short story that was well written with beautiful prose. I'm not a fan of short stories, but this story about a prisoner named Errik who is imprisoned for using his voice is quite powerful. It's a fantasy tale about a man who has lived in a dark cell for many years, but things change when a young girl with a sweet voice is imprisoned in the cell next to his.
Voices in this world are dangerous, thus no speaking or singing is allowed, but once the young girl starts to sing, Erikk begins to remember who he is and is willing to suffer the consequences to let his voice be heard.
I would read more of this author's work. It's hard to tell a full story with a limited word count, but Rae Carson does an exceptional job with Dangerous Voices.
