I personally thought the

rape scene

was not as graphic as I was expecting. I tend to compare those scenes to The Kite Runner or The Education of Dixie DuPree. This one was nowhere near those.

I actually listened to this one on an audiobook. I am very hard to please when it comes to narrators, but the narrator on this one, Jesse Vilinsky was great. 

This thriller hooked me from the jump.  I felt like I was watching a Netflix documentary special. The story follows “Avery” and her brother who are living with their cult-y parents on their compound. They get woken up in the middle of the night to a fire and manage to escape. You follow along their journey and also get tiny bits of information to solve the mystery of what actually happened.  I would definitely recommend looking up trigger warnings for this book if that is something you need to prepare for. 

My thoughts: wow.  I loved this book.  It felt like I was watching the village and a Jim Jones documentary mashup. I was captivated by this story and simply COULD. NOT. STOP.
