What a rich array of characters. They all start out as background people you don’t care much about, and then Cherryh sprinkles in a bit of dialogue or an offhand anecdote about the character by another that makes you love them. The plot itself is OK. The characters are as dragged along by it as you will be. Read it for the dialogue and the worldbuilding. And for Pyanfar.

I am reminded of a old "Rebel Yells" (1986 WorldCon) tape, now on Youtube: Chall and Tully's Homecoming. As well as (more obviously) from Finity's End (1985) "Pride of Chanur" by Leslie Fish. If it can be confirmed that these songs are related to the novels I would much appreciate it, as well as knowing if there are others to be found. Thanks!

Couldn't get along with it. Somehow the whole lion thing didn't work for me.
