꧁꧁Book Review꧂꧂

Retelling(ish). Rushed. Disjointed.

The story follows Ella, a slave brought after her town is ravaged by the Romans by the evil domina, Octavia. Along with her not really childhood sweetheart, they survive 8 years before Ella loses her absolute shit and seeks the hunky fae…cue: Rochelle enters the room and becomes vaguely interested.

What in the holy nutcrackers did I just read? I think this is supposed to be a Cinderella retelling but it’s so loosey goosey, the plot is all over the place. There are so many ideas and plot lines mushed together here, that it feels really chaotic and confusing.

And the one trope I despise is the love triangle, particularly when the MC cannot make they’re mind up (if they can’t choose, they don’t really like either of them IMO!) and this trope was done poorly in this book. Woman could not make up her mind, had both of them (even though she didn’t really want either of them, she was just lacking options) and then still couldn’t decide. No thank you.

Overall, quick read to add to the reading challenge but that’s about it.

I had too many issues about this novella. This book was suggested to me from booktok as a romance… and is far from it. It began too many subplots and left a lot hanging with a “not a HEA” type of ending. It had interesting writing at parts, but it felt like it was a couple of chapters of a book instead of a complete story.
