So after re-reading Steven Cole's part 1 of this duology, i had to say i wasn't very impressed going in. However, I heard that there was a lot more 8 and 9 in this one, so my hopes were raised a little bit. And honestly, i definitely had some fun with this one.

Taking place immediately after the previous book, this deals with 8,9, and 10 on an adventure to save the universe from the daleks (as a doctor tends to do nearly every week) And this one overall just had a much more fun vibe to it.

The previous book had a lot of death and destruction and was just plain sad, while this one had a lot more wit and fun.

You hardly EVER get to see 8,9, and/or 10 hanging out with each other in a crossover type fashion and it was actually a lot of fun hearing the banter between the three of them. (8 and 9 being two of my favorites). Some of their dialogue was very amusing including 8 and 9's love for a spider plant which they named Hector.

That's the thing about this book, i loved the banter. The story itself was...okay, it was fine. Stop daleks from destroying stuff. the only real issue i could think of in this book was the scene changes were VERY abrupt and came very frequently. i have a type of reading where i tend to gloss over details and absorb the story, but this is one of the few books where you can't do that. the action happens so fast you kind of have to pay attention to every sentence. not that that's a BAD thing, it just jarred me from my normal type of reading.

I was a bit sad it was so short as i would love to see more stories with 8, 9, and 10 together as you can't really count "Knight, the fool, and the dead" as a crossover as 8 and 9 were relegated to cameos in that one.

The side characters were not bad as Brian, and the Vampire lady were both amusing and for once, i enjoyed a side character and didn't want to throw them out the nearest airlock.

When it's all said and done, i really did enjoy this book and i hope they write more crossovers. the writing was VERY easy to read, bordering on, if not YA, and there was no big blocks of description muddling up the novel *coughdanielomahonycough*

That being said, easy 4 out of 5.

This is the best Doctor Who novel I've read in a long time, and it's no wonder, since Una McCormack wrote it. I've been a fan of hers for awhile now, as every title I've read by her I've enjoyed immensely. Sometimes with these Who crossovers, you get cameos from previous Doctors, or they will be in for a chapter or two and then leave. This novel, I'm happy to say, was exactly the opposite. Eight and Nine got just as much page time, if not more, than Ten. They were all in character of their respective incarnations and each given plenty to do in terms of solving problems and preventing the destruction of their world. There's daleks, vampires, hybrids, an assassin Ood, and a well traveled spider plant. I really appreciated the fact that it took place in the far past, and not on Earth, in the UK, during world war 2 (because honestly? enough of those already). Am I a little biased towards this book because 8 is my favorite Doctor? Maybe. It was also action packed and made sense of all of the loose threads that Cole left in the previous book (which is no easy feat, if you've ever read a Cole). That being said, you can't really read this one without having read the first in this duology, The Knight The Fool and the Dead; this one won't make any sense and they really come as a package deal.
Fantastic romp overall, and I'm looking forward to more of 8 and Una McCormack in the future.

The pacing is way too rushed, especially with the story being told from multiple characters' points of view. It does pick up towards the end, and the general thrill is felt throughout the book, but it reaches the conclusion very quickly without much breathing room.

While I did enjoy the Time Lord Victorious series, it definitely was a bit underwhelming. 6/10 for both of the books.
