I do really like this book however it is not one of Cassandra Clare’s best works considering this was her first book. A good read but I wasn’t necessarily intrigued nor wanting more while reading.

This was an interesting take on nephilim and all the other types of beings. I liked all of the characters, including the minor ones...Magnus was a hoot! There were a couple of twists that I wasn't expecting, and one just left me skeeved out. Overall, I just felt like something was missing and I really can't put my finger on what was lacking. I am not sure if I am interested enough to see where this goes by reading the rest of the series.

I never really intended to read this series, it’s one of those that just never really piqued my interest but then I picked up sword. At her and decided I should pick this one up as well and read it. And I’m glad I did. It was a nice quick read and a good set up for the rest of the series and what’s to come.

I am just re-reading this. Love it. I love the connection that Jace and Clary shared. Clary is being introducted to whole new world and discovering who she is. and I love Simon too. I can't wait for the movie and the next book.

Well, let's see - beginning was good - characters seemed interesting - the story had flow and, believe it or not I could not put it down, for the first half - then, it got too much teenage drama and angst and that got mixed in with a healthy dose of evil monologues and dialog that went nowhere except to provide back-story that I didn't care about - and how many people can possibly lie in one story - but, I thought - nope, that was a lie and here is the truth - only to (possibly) find out that the new truth is really a new lie and that the real truth is yet to be spoken - confused? - so am I - too many plot twists and turns in this one and I got motion sick - I will not be completing this series, because in the end, I do not care about the characters in the end the way that I did in the beginning - I started out liking Luke, but he turns into kind of an a** - I liked Jace, but then he turns into kind of an Emo - I never liked Simon because he is too nerdy yet not - he is not a cool geek, just a convenient one - not at all believable to me - and the main character, Clary, I just have no care what-so-ever if she lies or dies at this point - this is not a complete failure, because as I said, there are some good parts of this story, but in the end, I just don't see the need to continue.
