This book falls into that space between early reader books and full-fledged chapter books. There are a few illustrations and a lot of white space so as not to be too intimidating. Jim Nasium is on his school basketball team, but his primary position is benchwarmer. At practice, when he gets a chance to play, he can never score. After playing fetch with his friend's dog, Jim realizes that he is much better throwing underhand. He practices making underhand "granny" shots and makes 356 out of 357, derailed only by his friend's dog. When he gets his moment to play in the game, he has to decide whether to try to throw a traditional shot or be almost guaranteed to make it granny-style. Cute story but not particularly memorable.
