It is a read about the different motivations of men who want to hold power and how it impacts their group. The story is set in Cambridge College in England during the time of Spanish War (atleast that is what I gathered.) And it concerns the election of a Master amongst a group of 13 teachers. I liked the story party because I am partial to reading about old colleges in old days and I like the language of that era. It can get a tad bit tedious at times but overall it is an interesting insight into the working of human ambition and how it plays out amongst their fellow men. I am docking an extra star for the uni-dimensional portrayal of the only couple of female characters in the book.
All in all, a good one-time read.

Thirteen fellows need to elect a new Master at a Cambridge college in 1937. Nice story on the intrigues, diplomacy and psychological games employed by the supporters of the two candidates (Jago and Crawford). Also sheds light on the customs at the time.
