First book of the year is a deeply personal poetry collection by non binary Mununjali Yugambeh writer Ellen van Neerven; they touch on the meaning of self and community within a queer Aboriginal context, how climate change and colonialism intertwine, heartbreak, legacy, and country.
I'm not as well practiced at reading poetry - this was a birthday gift from my partner - but I really enjoyed dipping into the beauty, lyricism, & depth van Neerven infused through their writing.
