I didn’t expect to enjoy this comic as much as I did. I am not a fan of Comics! In!Space! as a whole, and have never really cared about the Guardians. But the family dynamics in play here, both between Quill and his father, and the Guardians as a whole, really got me, and I am eager to see how this run plays out. I know a lot of readers have issues with Bendis as a writer, but his stuff always seems to work for me. It’s fun and still manages to hit all the right notes to resonate.

Not necessarily bad I just really don’t like the Guardians of the Galaxy for some reason.

Reread: I didn't like this quite as well as the first time I read it, but I think it's because I've now seen the movie (multiple times), which was just so much more awesome.

Original review:
Prior to this, I had not read anything about the Guardians of the Galaxy. And I really, really liked this a lot. It made me a lot more excited about the upcoming movie, where previously I had no feelings about it. Well, actually I did. It's Marvel, and I love Marvel, so I would see it regardless.

I liked the characters, especially Rocket Raccoon, which was unexpected. I don't generally care for animal characters. Gamora was a tough female character, and I hope they do her justice in the movie, and not make her there just for the boobs.

I hope there's more in this comic book series, because I will definitely read it.

I enjoyed this, but I found the action panels confusing, and I disliked how they drew Gamora (in battle she was often contorted to show her butt and breasts. It looked really unnatural and was obviously sexist). But I liked the story and overall I liked the art.

Solid first volume though it slowed down towards the end.

  • Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Fun and accessible intro to this team. Plus, I dig misfit space pirates (Firefly!).
