This one started off so strong, I didn't realize it was YA. Once I realized it was YA things made more sense, but I was already disappointed. Now that I know who the author is all is clear.

I love the premise of this book. I love even more the broad queer femme representation. It speaks to teen drama and trauma in a sincere and complex way without relying on the shock value of overly explicit descriptions.
So why only three stars?
It was good, but not great. I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to anyone.
To be honest, I sort of lost interest about half way through. I thought there would be more action and contiguous plot, but as a reader it felt like a lot of smash cuts and implied backstory without ever fleshing anything out fully (except for one of five characters (by which point I was just reading to finish)) leaving huge gaps in the story line.
So why only three stars?
