It was interesting to see Celaena go through so much character development in this book, and to see both the world building and the cast of characters expand.

The introduction of the witches, and Manon in particular, was a nice way to not only keep the reader informed about the king’s military plans, but also give more depth to a population which so far has only inspired horror for our main character.

Honestly, I cannot wait to see all of these characters find their way to one another again and see their reactions to everything that has changed.

WHOA
Sooooo much going on and I’m loving all the characters! I want Celaena and Manon to be best friends.
Rowan is amazing.
The last few chapters with Dorian and Chaol had me holding my breath.
On to the next!

Well. It's been quite a journey, this book, and I really really really want to talk about it with someone - which I can't do without major spoilage involved, so this review is going to stay short.

First things first. I enjoyed Book Three a lot more than Book Two, and perhaps more than Book One as well. Book Two was a bit of a let down, and at first this book wasn't any better -- it started out slow and kept switching from the storyline I wanted to follow to other random POVs, which I found tiresome and annoying. But then I got caught in the story, and was soon invested in the characters. Some of them, anyway.

I believe I can say this without spoiling; this book made me hate Dorian. It isn't even a rational hate, I just happen to be a temperamental bitch and he gets on my nerves. Something about his mannerisms (and I suppose the occasional action, or lack thereof,) brings out the worst in me.
SpoilerAnd can I just say that if he and Celaena ever get together, I am outta here.

Two things made this book a five star read for me: Rowan and Abraxos. What fabulous characters. Read it for them.

And on a positive note, HOF was positively overflowing with girl power. In fact, I’d even go so far as to say the men were a little on the wimpy side, compared to the women. Go chicas!

Spoilery thoughts I had during reading: (DON'T READ UNLESS YOU'VE ALREADY READ THE BOOK)
SpoilerOh dear. By the end of Crown of Midnight, I mostly abandoned the Chaol-Celaena ship and in Heir of Fire I've jumped whole-heartedly onto another one. And I suspect I will go down with this ship. He is grumpy and irritable and mean and I love him to death. Grumpy, irritable, mean, and broken, so broken.

Dorian and Chaol’s storyline/relationship is incredibly unsatisfying.
And I hate Dorian. If he and Celaena ever get together in some later installment in the series, I am going to stop reading and give that book one star. Dorian is a selfish, shallow, pain in the ass, bastard, who just pisses me off.
