I really didn’t know much about Trevor Noah before reading this. I’ve never seen his comedy or seen him on The Daily Show. After reading this and seeing where he came from and the obstacles he’s overcome, he’s so inspiring, matter of fact, and funny I’m going to have to check out his comedy soon.

i’ve become such a memoir fiend

updated review: 4 stars because this was hilarious and also trevor articulated his relationship with his mother so thoughtfully and lovingly. one star off because sometimes the non-chronological nature of his memoir confused me

I loved this books some much. I read this book a while back maybe 2 to 3 years ago and recently I reread it and I realized once again how much fun it is to read. throughout the book there are so many jokes that are really funny. the book also touches on very important topics and themes. I will also say that I very much recommend listening to this in audiobook from with Trevor Noah himself reading it, it was wonderful.

What an intelligent, compelling exercise in responsible story telling.

I did not mind the lack of chronology. It made a lot of sense to me that he saw a specific storyline or theme through, regardless of the jump in time it made.

I appreciated how much effort went into explaining the cultural specificities of post-apartheid South-Africa.

The "Go Hitler !" chapter is one of the greatest anecdotes ever told. (Before you tell me off, please read it and re-examine).

Despite his life being plagued with poverty, abuse, racism, etc., this book is filled with love and light. It is evident that every episode of his childhood (and there are quite a few !) has been intellectualized and absorbed as a life lesson.

Shoutout to his mom, the most punk-rock lady I've ever read about. No masters !!!

I was not familiar with Trevor Noah before reading this biography, and I will definitely check out his material now !
