A chaotic conflux of three narratives, The Sound of Children Screaming is at its core an anti-gun story. Weaving together allegorical representations of the Gun, Shooter and Portal along with infuriating naivety through which people wish to resolve the school shooting epidemic present in the US. The third narrative is a fantastical one as teacher Michelle and her nine-year-old students are whisked away to a realm of devious rats looking to ply the kids with gifts so they stay... stated to be happening in near moments as the Gun is apparently rampaging through next to their classroom.

You could argue the message is someone too heavy-handed, with the likes of Sandy Hook and other outright name-dropped, but I don't think the author tried to lie to their audience and claim this is some unbiased piece. It unabashedly takes a stance. Which doesn't necessarily help the fact I only found the part with the rats interesting enough to hold my attention. I assume some of this might be lost on non-US people.
