Really lovely. Not super original but well-written and illustrated. I love teaching my children about other cultures and languages. This book is perfect for that.

I remember when my grandmother would come visit from Puerto Rico and how much fun we'd have together. We could understand each other (we spoke the same language) but she still taught me fun phrases that were unique to our community. There wasn't a "good-bye" for us either as we rarely said it to each other. We used to ask for "la bendición" and that was that.

Rajani's beautiful picture book about that relationship with a grandmother, those moments where we experience our culture through their wizened eyes, really resonated with me. It's not goodbye, it's going and coming back.

Very sweet story about the bond between a grandmother and granddaughter and also interesting contrast between the two of them bonding in India vs the US. The illustrator is Mexican not Indian and I don’t know how I feel about that.

SO TENDER. I would clip this for storytime. Narrative skills, phonological awareness

Beautiful story of the relationship between a young girl and her grandmother who live in different countries and don't speak the same language, but love each other. Sweet story with lovely illustrations. Text includes Tamil words.

Loved the illustrations and the story. The parallels were great- I loved the rangoli compared to hopscotch, and the chapatis and tortillas... it gave me pause, and made me appreciate the cross-cultural family experience.
