This is like Buffy in literary form. It’s campy and doesn’t take itself too seriously.
Pros:
  • Fast paced and lots of action, very entertaining
  • Genuinely funny parts
  • Likable characters with chemistry
  • Great unexpected twist in the first 50 pages
Cons:
  • I didn’t know this was a series. This book ends unresolved. Boo.
  • They’re “just friends”… except they both constantly fantasize about making out with eachother. I would say slow burn except the flame never started.
  • The Merle side story was boring as hell
  • Side characters are all flat
  • Lots of mentions of NYC locales and neighborhoods. I just resigned myself to not understanding where anything was.
Also Marco’s mom is mentioned off-screen once and never again. Does she exist???

Marco Catalano and Amanda Colt. Two characters who are different and yet the same. Amanda has few friends, and she likes it that way. The reason being that she has secrets that she wants to keep and having friends will complicate that. Marco is highly intelligent and this seems to draw Amanda to him. They both have secrets that they are keeping, but situations will arise that will cause these secrets to be exposed one at a time.
Honor At Stake by Declan Finn is a paranormal romance novel, but it's not your usual run of the mill romance novels. Where typically you believe one character is one thing, and the author surprises you by revealing the truth. I have to say that this book has some interesting elements, but because it is so far different from the usual, it's not a favorite of mine. The characters have their interesting moments, but this book is not for those who enjoy a good romance that has sparks flying quickly. These two characters explore history, folklore, and each other's strengths and intelligence.
I can't honestly say that this story is fast-paced because, in my opinion, it's not. This story has a steady pace and some sparks/spurts of excitement to keep the reader engaged. I don't like that they try to rationalize and push off their attraction to each other. It's a bit off-putting. I honestly wanted more from them.
I am rating this book 4 out of 5 stars. This book was not what I expected. I was expecting one thing to be one way, and I was expecting more romance and sparks to fly between the characters. The story, in my opinion, is not fast-paced, but it does move at a steady pace. Some will find the book engaging while others may not find it as engaging as others. This book will truly be subject to what the reader enjoys most in a book as they read it.

Honor at Stake will sink its fangs into you and keep you up all night. It is a consuming story with in-depth characters, a fast pace, and enough humor to lighten it all. Honor at Stake kept me guessing and second guessing myself on which was the vampire and which the murderer right up until the big reveal.
