I was immediately hooked on this story. I didn't really clue in until near the end that it was a little mermaid retelling, but that's good, I like when they are not so obvious.
I've always found writing from several character perspectives adds a fullness to the story that wouldn't be achieved otherwise, and Christo did this well with Lira and Elian. I found myself excited to learn the other character's thoughts on certain events and with this writing style that excitement is sated perfectly.
I think the immediate darkness of the story really attracted my attention. Characters that have darkness in them while still maintaining the ability to do good seem much more real and hey, I just enjoy dark things. It was a bit predictable what would ultimately happen by the end, but I didn't know how we would get there and it didn't take away any of the enjoyment.

This book has so much potential but was so boring. It could not hold my attention for anything. I got to about 70 something percent and then just googled a summary so I could be done with it.

The beginning dragged and the ending was rushed, but it wasn't so bad in between. Also, as much as I appreciate an enemies-to-lovers story, I wish this one had been given more time. It wasn't bad, just not as good as it could have been.

I loved this book! I thought it was well written and extremely captivating! I was hooked from the start! If you're looking for a good fantasy novel with a good redemption arc and believable romance, look no further!

I liked this one!

It was an easy read, something happened all the time.

It was a nice twist of a little mermaid inspired story, with a more wicked "ariel".

Lira, as the fmc is named in this book was a fun character.
Not funny "hahah" but fun to read about.
And I just wanted to know more and more so the pages kept turning until the book was done.

It was an interesting story to follow and see how it unfolded for the main characters Lira and Elian.

It was a bit predictable, but that didn’t bother me. I still enjoyed it very much!
No spice to talk about but the story was enough, and together with the little romance that existed made it a really enjoyable read.

I would recomend this if you want an easy, quick story about sirens, pirates and their struggle to defend their kingdoms.

This was so goddamn much fun! I am freaking out about how good this book was. Hot damn. I knew I had deemed this as a read to leave for a rainy day, but I sure am glad that I let myself get a little hyped up for it before reading it.

I have struggled, ever since reading and falling in love with Lies Beneath by Anne Greenwood Brown in late 2016 with finding another good mermaid (or siren, whatever) book. I've struggled so much with it that I decided to start to write the sort of mermaid book I'd want to read, but I've never stopped searching for a good book about mermaids, even if it wasn't one like Lies Beneath.

I'm so pleased to report that, even though this is nothing like Lies Beneath, this book is fucking great. I loved the atmosphere pretty much from the word go and quickly fell in love with Elian and Lira and the ship they sailed the seas on. I loved their banter as well as their rapport with the crew. I was enamored by the lore and the world building from start to finish and I loved the characters that populated this universe even more.

This would certainly be a world and characters I would read multiple books for, but I'm actually kind of glad this appears to be a stand-alone because Elian and Lira's story is at a place I'm content to leave it at and I won't have to wait around to find out what happens next because there is no "next." With that said, though, I absolutely adored this book and I'd be happy to return to the seas for another swashbuckling adventure with Elian, Lira, and co. anytime. Say the word, Christo, and I'm there.

Interesting plot, cute forbidden love sory! It should have been so good, but I dont know I think the romance between Lira and Elian was too much of a subplot for me. Also the ending... I feel like that did NOT answer enough questions as to what's going on between them.
