Ughhh. I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!

Some crazy circumstances threw Miles and Daphne together. At first, I had my doubts about liking Miles and honestly couldn’t understand how their chemistry was going to possibly grow so much. But man, was I wrong.

I think the fake-dating trope must be growing on me because I thought everything about this was cute. And that slow burn was burning, y’all.

I think some of the charm was that Daphne had some… issues? And that Miles was a NORMAL DUDE. He had a normal job, wasn’t well rolling in cash, smoked some weed and lived in an apartment. Sometimes it’s nice to see a more realistic relationship depicted.

Her dad sucksssss and he didn’t deserve the time of day or any effort. But these two have huge hearts so of course he gets chance after chance.

Emily Henry is either a big hit or a pretty big miss for me and this one is one of my new favorites, for sure.

Favorite quotes:
“You can't force a person to show up, but you can learn a lesson when they don't”

“Trust people's actions, not their words. Don't love anyone who isn't ready to love you back. Let go of the people who don't hold on to you. Don't wait on anyone who's in no rush to get to you.”

“You're the reason for the word wonderful. It really shouldn't be used for anything else.”

Tropes:
Forced Proximity
Fake-Dating

On the spectrum of Emily Henry, this book was closer to Happy Place than Beach Read. I really enjoyed these characters and the natural progression of the relationship from roommates to friends to lovers. Something about the end of the book/third act conflict didn’t work for me, and I think it’s the miscommunication. I also just didn’t feel satisfied at the end that issues had truly been resolved. I feel like the relationship was still fragile when the book ended. However, this book made me laugh, cry, and feel seen in a lot of ways so I still really enjoyed it overall. Peter is the worst and I love how Daphne came to her own.

I am a firm believer that Emily Henry can do no wrong. Henry writes with such heart, such emotion, that her love for the genre feels palpable. It is a true testament to her skill that such a heartbreaking backstory (if we’re going off of vibes, think Tortured Poets Department) radiates humor and warmth.
As much as I enjoyed Funny Story, this is probably one of my least favorites of her novels. In my opinion, it is because there was such an emphasis on character development, that the love aspect was a bit neglected. Now again, that may just be bc I’m a hopeless romantic. I recommend everyone try it though:)

I was going through something when I read this that might have affected my feelings towards it. Despite being in a bad place, it did make me laugh out loud which her books always can. But I think it's maybe my least fav Em Hen book?? only because compared to her other books (I've read all but PWMOV) it was more rom-com focused without any other plot going on. There was Daphne befriending her co-worker, but idk something didn't hit quite the same. I just compare everything to Happy Place which is my favorite (a god tier book)...
