this graphic novel possesses one of the most bizarre story lines - it's such a refreshing perspective on the world. Yang's art is beautiful and who knows what you'd find in his mind if you cracked it open...

This is not as good as some of his other work, the writing is not as seamless, and he uses a few too many cliches (i.e. cliched phrases).

But, I still really enjoyed this, and as another reviewer has said he has a "wacky" imagination. Really fun and encouraging too, and this combination is hard to find, and not just in graphic-novels, but in literature period.

(Get it? "Literature period." Get it? Get it? Sweet).

Heard Gene Yang speak at The Loft and it reminded me of his other work. This collection was thoroughly enjoyable.

Ohmygosh I ADORED this collection! These are Yang's earliest comics and it's easy to see why he's become such a popular author. The stories are a perfect mix of sci fi and realism, and Yang's protagonists are delightful and fun to follow. This was possibly unintentional, but the stories start out very lighthearted and by the end of the third/final tale things get serious in a very interesting way. Yang is asking questions about what strength means and about what morality can possibly be when it is conceived by humans with flawed perspectives. So great, if you've read Yang's other stuff you've got to read this!
