It started off slow and 50% in i still didn't know what the hell is going on then everything unraveled so fast that it caught me off guard. A unique storyline and I enjoyed it overall. Will probably read the sequel as soon as I write this....

This is not a thriller or horror story, so if you’re expecting that then don’t pick this up. It’s a slow burn, creepy, disturbing mystery centered on a house and a baby. More like a toned down and modern day version of Flowers in the Attic by VC Andrews. I get why some readers were confused since it has multiple POVs with first and third person narrators and it alternates between years. There were also several psychological family issues/plots piled on top of another which would be great to unravel (Birdie Dunlop-Evers could also be another story!) but then, that would make the book unnecessary long.
I personally did not mind the writing format. I think it made the story unpredictable; it made the characters raw, flawed and unconvincing at the same time. You’ll never know if they were lying or deceitful in their stories but that’s what made me stayed until the end.

The twist was astonishing. The book wrapped up nicely.
Does it really need a sequel? Probably not but I’ll read it next

Actual rating 3.5.  For the first half if not more of this book I was very bored and almost DNFed this multiple times. It was very meh and was not holding my interest what so ever. However about half way through it really picks up! I spent the last 3/4s of the book going omg wtf..
