Though overall pretty funny, a lot of these jokes are the types of things I've seen over and over relative to dogs. Also, this was really too short to constitute a whole book.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I just love The Oatmeal’s art/comics, and so when I saw this one as a Read Now up on Netgalley I just had to get it. It may not contain much new things (since I follow The Oatmeal on Twitter), but I still wanted it.

And in the end, it was indeed just the comics which I already read on his site (with a few changes at times it seems, maybe to make it more seller-friendly?). But oh well, it was fun to read them again, to see him and his dogs (or should I say middle-aged men) and see what happens in their life.

It is still a brilliant idea to draw draw middle-aged men instead of dogs. It just fits too well, way too well actually, and some scenes made me laugh so loudly (like the bath scene with the POOF, or the mailman and their reaction to it).

At times I just felt so sorry for Matt, it is one thing when it is dogs, but when it is dogs draw as middle-aged men, it just makes situations so much worse (like the bum licking in full view of Matt).

Matt’s drawing style is still a favourite of mine.

All in all, this was definitely fun to read and I would recommend it!

I love The Oatmeal with a passion. Their comics are always fantastic, from the hilarious to the more serious and even occasionally heart touching. I always want to support them.

That being said, this book is way. too. short. There is so much fodder with this idea, so much to play with, and when you get to the end, you can't help sitting there thinking, "Wait...am I missing pages, or something?"

I mean, the middle-aged men don't even randomly hump anyone.

So, yes, hilarious, but lacking in terms of length. We always need more funny in the world.

'If My Dogs Were a Pair of Middle-Aged Men' by Matthew Inman is a short, but hilarious book that delivers exactly what the title promises.

Matthew Inman dedicates the book to his two idiot dogs, then proceeds to portray them as middle-aged men. When the owner sneezes, the dogs come running out yelling out 'Emergency!' They also beg to play fetch, then run away. These and other jokes that are played out to hilarious ends.

This might have run really thin, but at 36 pages, this book actually made me want more, which means it was probably a perfect length. I really enjoyed this one.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

Funny and such an accurate representation of how similar dogs and middle-aged men can be! I love the ending comics.

I got an ARC in return for an honest review on NetGalley.

I don’t have much experience with these comics. I have seen a few here or there, but I was never motivated enough to go and track down the site. I have a copy of Exploding Kittens that was gifted to me from a friend who thought the art was disgusting. I can see why she thought that. The art is very much a four year old boy human for most of it. I can do without another fart joke, thank you.

The premise was pretty amusing. I always imagine what my dogs would sound like if they could talk or what they would look like if they were human. It is a hobby that I take very seriously, which is why I needed to read this book.

The book itself is pretty funny. It shows how ridiculous it would be to have a dog be a person if their ages were proportional. I always imagine my dogs as teenagers or toddlers, never matching their real age. This book forced me to face that. I will stick with my much cuter version.

The book did make me laugh a few times, but what dropped the rating was the length and the price. I can’t justify paying as much for the book as the cover price for such a short book. It isn’t one that made me scream “I NEED THIS BOOK”. I might check out the website, but I probably won’t buy the book for myself. It may be a gag gift for the office’s white elephant party though.

Het is wel grappig en herkenbaar als je een hond hebt, maar mag echt wel wat langer.
