The ending was a little quick but all in all this sequel didn't disappoint. I liked finally getting to meet/see the elven world and I loved the conclusion.

3.5 Stars - I loved Counterpoint, book one in the Song of the Fallen series, and was looking forward to this, the second part of the story. It picks up right where the last left off, on the road to the Splendor, the High Court of Agea…

High Court, however, was tedious. I got why the intrigue and plotting was necessary to see but it tended to drag on rather than create suspense and excitement. Freyrik and Ayden’s relationship suffered and I struggled to see the love from either character’s actions. This next bit is a bit of a spoiler: there is a point where Freyrik asks Ayden if it really would have been so bad to have submitted to being raped for the sake of not drawing attention to himself and Freyrik – I found this unforgivable and more a sign of their master/slave relationship then the partners he professed to feel towards Ayden. I felt they spent too much time at High Court.

Once they leave for the dark woods, things pick up and the story becomes much more interesting. I really loved the adventure part and the spooky atmosphere. The details are great and I could imagine the setting. I appreciated that their relationship seemed to be back to better footing, though not completely secure. This was the best part of the book.

However, the ending left me feeling cheated. Where I kept looking at the percentage done on my kindle during the first part and felt time was dragging, during the last part, time flew and at 98%, I couldn’t see how things could be wrapped up well for our heroes. And then a Startrek Voyager “Janeway ending” happened: everything was cut at the climax and the results told in the epilogue/final chapter and tied with a bow rather than letting us experience them as they happened.

Overall, despite its flaws and questions left unanswered, I enjoyed the story and if you’ve read Counterpoint, you need to read Crescendo. In fact, Counterpoint was good enough, if you like fantasy, you should read the whole series anyway.

Story wrapped up far too quickly and neatly for my liking. The last 20% of the book could have been expanded upon and doubled in size, and would have resulted in a much more satisfying read.

A silly jaunt of an adventure. So much relies on the reader to simply accept things. Then it ended and I wanted more, good show.

I loved this series. The characters were well-rounded, the writing was clean, and the plot was engaging. I really liked the world building with the music imagery. I would read more in this world.

Ayden and Rik have a lot of obstacles to overcome for their love to be accepted. They have a lot of dangers to face both from humans and elf kind. Highly recommend this one!

First, I have to have a moan about the cover for this book...what were they thinking? Freyrick's face looks like a photograph of some bloke that hs been poorly photoshopped into the painting. WHY do m/m books have such crappy covers? It bugs me beacuse it does the book and the author a diservice. This is a fantastic book. I absolutely LOVED IT! The crappy cover will prevent some readers even considering reading it, which is such a shame. 'Crescendo' is a fantastic sequel to 'Counterpoint'. It continues the story of Prince Freyrik and his Elf slaver/lover Ayden. They have weathered far too many obstacles to find each other already, but they just keep coming. They find themselves between a rock and a hard place- being summoned to the high court by the Aegis (the king of all kings) Will Freyrick be punished for keeping Ayden secret? What punishments will Ayden have to endure to stay by the side of his lover/master. The story is a rollercoaster of emotions. super world building, great fantasy woven with a gorgrous romance, and some super sex scenes! It's very face paced, and never drags. This book has me crying, laughing, fearing for the lovers and hating the human's for their cruelty.
Another unputdownable book. Bravo Rachel Haimowitz bravo!
