This book speaks to the place I am in life so very poignantly. I will never forget it.

Like young Frisch I am embarking on a professional career, like him I have sought an answer from the silence. To live with that silence is the task of a lifetime.

Neden bunlardan silkinemiyoruz? Neden hayatımızı yaşayamıyoruz, bu tarifsiz ilahi dünyada sadece bir defaya mahsus bulunduğumuzu bildiğimiz halde, bunun sadece bir defalığına, tekrarsız olduğunu bildiğimiz halde!”

What do you expect from a trip to a mountain top? What do you think about on reaching the peak of the mountains or wherever you thought of reaching in the first place? Do you cry out of joy? Do you rejoice your achievement? Do you shout out loud to the entire world that at last you did achieve something with your life? Or do you remain silent??????
What do you do?
The book explores a man's thirst for finding a meaning towards his life. A travel which is going to change his life forever. An answer that's going to be sounding on his ears for every single moment of rest of his life. An experience which is never going to happen again in the future.
As he decides to reach the top of the northern ridge, the various mental thoughts and physical restrictions play a key role in the early development of the plot. Max makes it very clear that this book is not going to explore the world of adventures and achievements in reaching a peak of a mountain. One gets a sense of how the book is going to go in the very early stages of the book. As the man compares his previous visit to the mountain with his brother, he recalls the conversions they had and how he had strong faith that he is not destined to be a normal person. He even despises his brother for deciding to marry. But then he finds himself back in the mountains more than a decade later and realizes that he is no better than his own brother. This gives a fair idea of how the emotions and tone of the book is going to be set up. And as I ventured further into the book, I knew this was going to be such a matured first hand account of what an intense soul searching experience is going to be. This even outdoes my all time favorite book 'Into the wild' in making this more relatable tale than to the second hand description of Chris mccandles' story. The thoughts expressed are much more philosophical and hard hitting straight at the chest. His quest for a meaning towards his life makes him revisit some of the major events of his life and question as to how he went from bad to worse to miserable. His emotional dilemma between his new lover and new wife is the only deviation of this beautifully woven plot to keep the readers glued to the travel of the hero. Finally as he tries to achieve what he decided to achieve, there comes all the answers to his questions. And every answer looks exactly like the other. The perplexed realization that the answer for all these questions are one and the same. And it takes him a journey to the mountains in order to realize this. The answer from the deep silence of the mountains to finally understand what life is, what love is, what the goals of his lives are..... A book to cherish till the memory fades away.
