A bit of a let down

This was my least favorite of the four books. I understand that it can be challenging to write a very good short story but this book had an advantage. We were familiar with the two main characters from the previous books.
Nicki struck me as a more understanding and compassionate gentleman but that was not the Nicki that we got in this story. As for Julianna, I adored her in the previous book. She came across as mature and very wise for her age. But this story made her seem rash and fickle. How did she end up falling in love with Nicki when they barely ever had a conversation. They knew absolutely nothing about one another. The story was such a downer.
I was really looking forward to this couple’s story. So disappointing.
Lastly, after completing this series, I am not sure that I will read another book from this author. It seems that each of the heroes in the book have a very low opinion of the women, which is the challenge they have to overcome in the relationship. It unfortunately that at some point that each hero felt that they were being lied to, manipulated, by the heroine and that the heroine sleeps around. The heroine has to always prove herself by giving up her virtue or grovel for forgiveness. None of these men were blameless in the stories. For instance, in this story a drunk naive teenager propositions a grown experience thirty something man. He accepts her offer and makes her the villian when things goes astray.
He takes no responsibility for his part and how he took advantage of her.
I am just not a fan of any of the heroes

I knew better than to read this. I loathe novellas. Loathe them. But I always wanted Nikki to get his own book. So I gave it a chance. I regret it and that’s on me.

Nikki deserves an entire book. He deserved a HEA. This is a shame of a book and disrespectful to his characters and all that he gave in the series. Ms. McNaught you let me down. You let Nikki down.

Not even Nicki was safe from the curse of being a raging idiot hellbent on misunderstanding every situation and calling his wife a slut while flaunting a mistress. This one suffered from the fact that it was about 300 pages short. The 82 pages it was were absolutely not enough to do anything besides anger me. They never even had a real conversation when she wasn’t inebriated???? He never even apologized???? At this point it feels like Judith recycles her plots like she’s a spokesperson for Waste Management. Always with the misunderstanding and Olympic level conclusion jumping. I really thought we’d be safe this time since it was only EIGHTY TWO GODDAMN PAGES. It made sense why he did misunderstand but good god the tempers!! Since it is a plot where a misunderstanding DOES actually make sense, it really just needed more space to develop.
