This was quite entertaining with several bits that made me laugh out loud. I loved him in Doctor Who and Torchwood. That said, he's not really a writer. The chapters were disorganized and he didn't include much Doctor Who or Torchwood info. He mostly focused on his theatre days. I did enjoy the pictures he included, especially the one where he's lifting his kilt and mooning the camera.

Have I mentioned that I love John Barrowman? Looking forward to the follow-up to this book that is sitting on my shelf.

I adore John and his life was just what I expected.

Although, at the end, I questioned if he was at the same parties as Spacey and Rapp. He mentioned Rapp and with the news stories recently - I wonder

Lets be honest here, I fancy the pants off this guy so part of the reason for checking out this book was for the photo section which contained a few nice snaps!

Seriously I liked John Barrowman when I first saw him in Doctor Who and was delighted to see the Totchwood spin off start. Of course the BBC have managed to ruin it by not giving the fans enough episodes in the last two 'series' which has ruined the show and reduced their own ratings. OK rant over.

The book is very interesting and as you would expect, there are plenty funny stories to keep you amused. This guy has a wicked sense of humour and I liked some of his stage moments. If you are a fan, you'll probably like this book.

Wow. This is the first autobiography I have ever read and wow is all I can say. I've seen John Barrowman in Doctor Who (Captain Jack is a wonderful character) and I follow the man in twitter but I learned so much about Barrowman from this book.. And while I've been reading this I've also been listening him singing. He has an amazing voice. I'm in love.

Honestly the only part I really enjoyed was where John stops name-dropping and listing all the expensive wonderful things he's done or bought, and spends an entire chapter BURN-BOOKING the ineffectual family of a friend he lost to suicide. It felt like the only sincere piece of writing.

Other than what he did on various holidays, the personalities of various family members, and his perception of the reader's level of education, there's very little new in here that you'll learn about John Barrowman the person or the persona.

Delightful autobiography. I learned a lot and I understand a lot more why he takes a stand for what he believes in and never wavers. Truly a "young" hero, even now, with a whole life of entertaining and making a difference in this world ahead of him.
I can't wait to read his second autobiography.

I love Johnny B and this book was a very fun read.
He definitely has some stories to tell! Sure, his ego sometimes comes across as overlarge, but so does his love for family and his passion for adding happiness to the world. All in all, the book just made me like him even more, as a person and as an entertainer.

John Barrowman is very good looking and sings well, which is just as well because I don’t think I’d have been interested in reading this to the end otherwise. His story is interesting enough, but his limitations as a writer show through when he explains that he visited the Dome on the Rock, which he helpfully explains is “an Islamic temple in Jerusalem”. And the constant footnotes are amusing enough to begin with but the joke wears thin after twenty pages. Especially when he points out he has taught you a new word like triptych. 1
But he’s talented, good-looking, wealthy beyond measure (as he tells us in the book) so he doesn’t need to write well, even with his sister’s help.

1 No, he hadn’t.

Three stars instead of four simply because the format the stories are told in are better suited to an interview style rather than a book. I enjoy JB quite a lot, I'm a theatre nerd. However, I think Carole (his sister, who basically transcribed stories he recorded for her), already being an experienced and published author, could have made more of an effort to arrange the stories in a linear timeline. They jump around a LOT, and sometimes he tells a story within a story within a story, and it can be difficult to keep everything straight.
