Great philosophical novel dealing with personal experience and love during the rise of Nazism. The story never gets bogged down by the existentialism as the philosophy of the book remains within the realms of fiction. The politics of the novel make it incredibly relevant for the reader of today, imploring the reader to consider the extent of the political actions and how these actions, inevitably, go beyond our conscious selves.

this was amazing actually, and relevant for me personally. a vivid execution of the life of a marxist attempting to situate himself pre/during ww2 france and his resolutions about action, guilt, one's responsibility towards others// as well as a nice little cast of supporting and secondary characters.. im only giving it three stars cause it was also kind of fucking cheesy. but i really loved it so idk maybe this will change. i highly recommend it to erryone
