Wow, this story captivated me completely! It might just be my top pick, rivaling the tales of Randy and Lily. Lance's character is beautifully flawed yet endearing. Poppy stands out as my favorite female lead in the series; she's incredibly relatable. Her practicality and intelligence shine through. The way she cherishes her childhood memories is something I deeply connect with. And the cherry on top? Her well-deserved happy ending. This story is a treasure. I can't recommend it enough!

Ehh
This was my least liked book In the whole series I think. I don’t know what it was but it took me three days to read verses the couple hours for the other ones. But all in all it was still a good book.

So, uh, this was legitimately good. It wasn’t funny in the way a lot of the previous books were until Violet showed up at the end. It dealt well with PTSD and I was middling on its treatment of bipolar disorder, which is both unusual and not what I expected to have in this review. I even teared up at one point. So yeah, not sad I skipped a couple books ahead.

I had to pick the non cringe worthy cover but I did read this digitally. Hockey romance always feels like they border on misogyny about how they refer to women as “puck bunnies” every 5 seconds. Still cute, but like… women can like hockey without being vapid whores who want to fuck the players? 😂. Even our main character was like ashamed that she knew stats because she didn’t “want to come off as a stalker” and idk, like that annoyed me.

ther than Juliet Stevenson’s narrated versions of Jane Austen classics, this book is hands-down the best audiobook I’ve ever listened to. The sex scenes, the insecure hero, the massages – I loved it all!!
The hero of this book, Lance, is a crazy-hot redheaded Scottish hockey player living in Chicago. Lance had a tragic childhood* that’s made it difficult for him to engage in meaningful relationships, in part because he can’t stand being touched. But when he meets massage therapist Poppy, he melts under her hands. He feels instantly comfortable in her presence, something he’s never before experienced with anyone else.
Poppy and Lance have actually met before, over a decade ago when they were just teenagers. Lance was Poppy’s first kiss, and though she’s had her fair share of boyfriends, she’s still always hoped she would reconnect with the gorgeous Scottish boy she met at 13. When they actually do reconnect a year before this book is set, though, the meeting is anything but fairytale material.
Their love story is further complicated by Lance’s vindictive ex-hookup, Tash, who seriously messes with his head. I love that Lance’s narration really goes into just how Tash affected his insecurity and his ability to engage with other women. I got to know his character and Poppy’s so well, and that was a huge part of what made me listen to this ENTIRE AUDIOBOOK in 24 hours.
An insecure, sensitive hero was also not what I was expecting when I picked up a hockey romance, but that just goes to show that you can’t just a book by its sub-genre. Lance is unguarded and vulnerable with Poppy, and she reassures him with loving kindness. I’d even go so far as to dub Lance a beta hero.
Probably my favourite part of the book was the way Lance worships Poppy’s body. At one point, Poppy notes that she’s not in nearly as good shape as Lance, and he says, “Fuck the gym. I’ll be your workout.” SWOON. He also tells her that he wants to “work to deserve your body”. DOUBLE SWOON.

This is first book in series that I really liked, although Lance is main reason why I liked and finally girl character that isn't annoying in this series.
Him and Poppy are so cute together.

This was an incredibly heartfelt read. Thankfully, the audiobook narrators brought these characters to life beautifully. I especially enjoyed the male narrators' performance of Lance. He managed to pour so much emotion into his characterization.⭐️👏
Lances backstory was so heartbreaking.💔 The physical and psychological @buse he'd suffered was awful. To learn what Tash had then been putting him through as well, it was pure exploitation and @buse as well.😭😡 It was tough to hear/read.
Poppy was a balm to all of Lance's wounds without even realising. She was a genuinely kind-hearted person who seemed might fit into his found family group - if he could learn to trust anyone enough again, after Tashs constant betrayals!😡
This was a wonderful read!♥️⭐️
