When the author touch on how capitalism and individualism promoted a quicker paced everything, the book clicked. Unfortunately, most of it was stories of people/examples the reader didn’t care about and lessons that the reader did not believe were realistic.

The story of economic growth in the modern western world is in many ways a story about the triumph in productivity thinking.
Improving systems instead of individuals
Visible as an indicator of productivity
Pseudo-productivity: the use of visible activity as primary means of approximating actual productive effort.
